Cholesterol & Ways to Lower It

Need to lower cholesterol? First, you must understand what it is and why it’s high. Cholesterol is a waxy molecule produced in the liver. It’s a building block used all over the body to make neurotransmitters in your brain, hormones like testosterone/estrogens/progesterone/vitamin D (hormones with a cholesterol base are called “steroid hormones”), and it’s a component of every cell membrane in your body.

Remember, you can’t pee in just one end of the pool. When you take a drug to lower cholesterol, every system that depends on cholesterol is affected. The side effects of memory loss, muscle pain, liver damage, and type 2 diabetes reflect the fundamental importance of cholesterol as a building block all over the body.

Cholesterol is made in the liver. Sooooo, why is the heart doctor giving you a drug to treat your liver😳. The reason is that it’s not really heart disease that causes “heart attacks”. These events, as well as most strokes, are caused by years of blood vessel inflammation. The final event is development of a blood clot that blocks flow of blood to the brain or heart muscle.

This same process of inflammation occurring in your arteries is occurring in your liver. When there is inflammation in an organ, it may produce more of what it normally produces. Inflammation is an irritative process. Liver inflammation can produce a rise in anything that is normally made in the liver. Triglycerides, liver enzymes, CRP, ferritin and clotting factors (what happens if you produce more clotting factors😳) are all made in the liver. If any of these is elevated, think smoke from a fire.

Inflammation (from the Latin meaning “on fire”) is the immune system’s response to critter overgrowth. The critter usually responsible for liver inflammation is Candida yeast. Candida yeast normally live in the colon where they benefit us by freeing up nutrients from waste matter. However, when thyroid and hydrochloric acid levels decline (this process starts around age 27), Candida can become mobile. They can migrate directly to the liver via a connection of the liver and colon called the portal vein.

Once in the liver, Candida start to ferment the carbohydrates stored there. This fermentation process produces alcohol the same way alcohol is normally made. This produces a condition termed “Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (Steato= fat. Hepa=liver. Itis =inflammation) or NASH. Fatty liver inflammation is the number one cause of liver transplants in the U. S. as it produces cirrhosis (irreversible liver scarring as seen in alcoholics). This is prominent in Mexican Americans and Native Americans.

NASH, like most medical conditions of “civilization” is a reversible condition. It’s not a disease. Reversal means lowering the critter count in the liver. When the critter count is lowered, the immune system stops the inflammatory process and the liver stops overproducing cholesterol, triglycerides, clotting factors, glucose (breakdown of liver carbohydrates is one source of the high blood sugar of diabetes), etc.

What does all this have to do with steel cut oats and coffee? Oats contain a substance called “beta glucans”. You can buy supplements of beta glucans at the health food store. Beta glucans are also a building block of the cell wall of Candida and other fungi. When you take in beta glucans, the process is similar to the way vaccines are supposed to work. Your immune cells sensitize to the beta glucans like a bloodhound sensitizes to a scent. They then track down and kill critters with beta glucans in their cell wall. Coffee, as you BALi veterans and Jedi docs know, is derived from a Gary Coleman fruit (small, dark and a little bitter) – not a bean. The “bitter” comes from critter killers these fruits make to protect themselves from fungi.

Sooooo, instead of a drug that causes diabetes, use steel cut oats (blackstrap molasses as sweetener) and coffee to lower your cholesterol.
